The Click Remote

The Click Remote

What if you could see the future?

Have you seen the movie Click? If you haven’t, I’ll give you a brief synopsis. Adam Sandler is given a Remote Control that allows him to manipulate time. Slow it down, speed it up, fast-forward, rewind – you get the point. He could remotely visit any point in his entire life, past or future – without altering what was actually occurring at that time. Make sense?

Let’s say you were given a “click” remote. What if you fast-forwarded and looked at yourself 6 months from now. Given all of your current habits, and lifestyle choices:

  • Would you look different?
  • Would you feel healthier?
  • Where would you be financially?
  • Did you positively or negatively change in those 6 months?

How about 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?

Next question. Where do you WANT to be in that given amount of time?

It’s awesome you want to lose 50 pounds, double your monthly income, run a marathon, or build 6 pounds of muscle, but are you actually putting in enough effort to achieve those things? Are your daily actions aligning with your future goals?

“Wanting” to lose 50 pounds is great, but actually losing 50 pounds is a different story. It’s not easy and it does not happen overnight. FYI – drinking soda, not exercising, and eating extremely unhealthy is not how you do it.

It is overwhelming and a bit scary to think about. Regardless, time will continue to move, and you will continue to age.

So, please, I encourage you, start right now. Not tomorrow. Not next Monday. Not in a month when your friend can start exercising with you.

The best time to start is now. Stop waiting, and give your 6-month future-self a reason to thank you.

Here are 3 simple ways to start positively progressing your life, so your future-self WILL thank you:

1.) Make Todo Lists

I’ve always been a list person. I need to visually see the things that need to be done, so I can cross them off the list, one-by-one, as I complete them.

If you aren’t a list person, that’s ok. Good thing for you, you CAN be.

It’s easy. Right now, I want you to think of a few things that you need to get done. Write them down and put that list somewhere where you can see it every single day.

It’s a form of self-accountability. It keeps you on track, and ensures at least a small amount of forward progression.

Small progression every day will be monumental 6-months from now.

2.) Make Your Health a Life Priority

Everyone wants to look better, have more self-confidence, and live a pain-free life. So, what’s holding you back from achieving those things?

We can start by looking at your priorities. I know you are busy, stressed, this and that, but regardless, you have to find time for exercise, and make it a priority – for life.

A 30-minute workout is only 2% of your entire day. Commit 30 minutes to your health everyday, and watch how every aspect of your life positively benefits.

50lb less, more financially stable, 3-year future you… WILL be grateful.

3.) Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

For me, the most influential and life altering moments have occurred when in a position of discomfort.

Comfort is a scary thing. It holds you there like a physical being. Traps you, almost.

Sure, being comfortable feels good, it’s easier, and requires less effort or thought…

…But why would you chose to live stagnantly, controlled purely by fear of change, or “what ifs”?

Feeling uncomfortable forces you to grow, adapt, and change.

Whether it is from pushing yourself through workouts, taking calculated financial risks, introducing yourself to your crush, or moving across the country chasing a dream, I encourage you to do it.

Take risks. Force yourself into a position of discomfort, and get comfortable with that feeling.

Remember, even a dead fish can “go with the flow”. Don’t be a dead fish.

Recap

Focus on small victories. Do something everyday that positively benefits your life and future.

  1. Make Todo Lists: Keep it somewhere visible and aim to scratch 1 to 2 things off the list everyday. This is an easy way to develop self-accountability.
  1. Make Your Health a Life Priority: 30 minutes a day is all you need. I know you want to look better and feel more confident, so stop making self-satisfying excuses and do it.
  1. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable: Don’t go with the flow of life. Take risks and force yourself into uncomfortable positions.

Your life is more than a monotonous cycle of self-pity, acceptance of what is, and living for the weekends. Take initiative, and give your future-self a reason to thank you.
